Damaged Hair

Damaged hair breaks easily, lacks elasticity when stretched wet, and has split ends throughout the length. Dry hair simply lacks hydration but can recover quickly with moisture. If a wet strand snaps without stretching, structural damage is present and a protein treatment is needed.

Structural recovery requires 4 to 8 weeks of consistent use of repairing products. ICON's Power Peptides works at a molecular level with every application. Split ends cannot be repaired and must be trimmed — treatments work from the root downwards to prevent further breakage.

It is best to minimise heat until the hair has recovered. If heat is necessary, always apply a heat protectant at the lowest effective temperature. ICON's Cure Spray used as a leave-in before blow-drying protects the fibre, adds slip, and makes detangling easier.

The best masks for damaged hair contain a combination of proteins (to rebuild structure) and emollients (to soften and seal). ICON's Supercharged Mask delivers both — its peptide complex targets bonds weakened by chemical or heat processing, while conditioning agents restore flexibility and shine.

Repeated high-heat exposure causes cumulative damage to the cortex that cannot be fully reversed. However, consistent use of bonding and peptide treatments like ICON's Power Peptides significantly improves the appearance and feel of heat-damaged hair by filling in structural gaps. The goal is to strengthen what remains while protecting new growth.
